The common origin of Portuguese and Spanish has led lexicographers to offer historical or etymological solutions on other dictionaries previously published. Diccionario VOX Esencial Português-Espanhol & Español-Portugués was the first bilingual dictionary adapted to the Portuguese Acordo Ortográfico that was applied gradually in all the Portuguese speaking countries from 2008. Due to the long transition period of 6 years, this dictionary also includes the previous spelling of the words that are affected by the new spelling rules.
